Captain SamhikaRecently I had an opportunity to sit with Captain Bishow Samhika from the Zimbabwe Territory, a Partner in Mission of the Central Territory. Captain Samhika is director of studies at The Salvation Army Leadership Training (SALT) College of Africa, an African zonal college for continuing education and leadership training available to officers in all African territories, headquartered in Zimbabwe. I asked him to share a little about his experiences while here in the U.S. and to give some insight to the work of The Salvation Army in Zimbabwe.

 Each year The Salvation Army in Omaha, Neb., receives several hundred thousand dollars in donations at its gala civic luncheon, The Salvation Army D.J.'s Hero Awards. Outstanding Nebraska youth and one adult are saluted, and the teens each receive $5,000 scholarships.

When The Salvation Army was first planting its feet in the U.S., Scandinavian immigrants were vitally instrumental in its growth. The first contingent of Salvation Army officers (pastors) appointed to officially begin the Army's work in the U.S. arrived in New York City on March 10, 1880.
