The Salvation Army's Moline and Davenport Corps to Receive Faith Stimulus Funds

Money Designated To Assist the "Newly Unemployed" of the Quad Cities Area

Quad Cities:  People affected by recent layoffs are able to apply for monetary help from The Salvation Army.  In response to the uncertain economy and subsequent increase in demand for services, The Salvation Army's Central Territorial Headquarters in Chicago is distributing a total of $3.6 million to Salvation Army units in 11 states with the stipulation that each location match half of the requested amount with community donations.  Funds were awarded to areas of greatest need.

"We are extremely grateful to United Way and Churches United for providing the necessary match money to make these grants possible," said Major David Luft, Quad Cities Coordinator of The Salvation Army. "We want to be able to offer a little help and hope to those who have recently lost their jobs. This funding comes at a critical time as more and more people are turning to us for assistance."

Here in the Quad Cities, the Moline Corps, serving Rock Island County, and the Davenport Corps, serving Scott County, each received an $18,000 grant - which will be utilized to offer assistance to those affected by the recent economic downturn. The money, along with the matching funds of $9,000 from local agencies - for a total of $27,000 per county - will be used exclusively for families and individuals who are in crisis as a result of unemployment occurring after October 1, 2008.

To apply for the monies, please do the following:

  • In Illinois: Call 309-764-6996 during business hours to make an appointment.
  • In Iowa: Call 563-391-5325 during business hours to make an appointment.
  • Please keep in mind that we are only able to assist those that have lost their jobs between October 1, 2008, and the present. Please be prepared to show us some sort of documentation proving this.

Anyone wishing to contribute to this program, or any of our ongoing programs to help local people, can call 1-800-SAL-ARMY.  Need Knows No Season.
