Learning CenterJoan Kroc's vision of a Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center (RJKCCC) was clear and unequivocal: it should consist of facilities and programs of superb quality that provide character- and confidence-building opportunities to children, youth, families and individuals. Mrs. Kroc clearly communicated that each RJKCCC should be a beacon of hope and an agent of change in an underserved community.

These centers must be designed to provide programs and services to at-risk or disadvantaged youth. Mrs. Kroc also wished the centers to have a strong family component.

Programs should:

  • Heighten educational awareness for children and families
  • Address unmet recreational needs
  • Enhance involvement in the arts and other activities
The heartbeat of every RJKCCC will be its Salvation Army corps (church) which will provide:
  • Meaningful worship
  • Spiritual guidance and counseling
  • Community outreach and evangelism
  • Leadership training and discipleship programs
  • Christian education and Bible study opportunities
  • Christian fellowship
These ministries will be offered throughout the week to enrich the lives of those involved in the center.

While Joan Kroc's vision was clear, it was never limited. The Salvation Army anticipates that each RJKCCC built in the Midwest will be as diverse in appearance and approach as the communities they serve. Each center will include unique facilities and program components to respond to the needs of the local community.
