The Salvation Army in Fiji Provides Help after Floods
Salvation Army workers in Fiji were greatly encouraged when they received a visit from the country's president while they were providing shelter, food and clean water to victims of flooding and landslides. Six people - including a family of four - were killed, with villages and suburbs left under water. Thousands of people had to evacuate their homes.

Major Salvation Army Relief Effort Still Underway Following Hurricane Irene
With the remnants of Hurricane Irene now out at sea, The Salvation Army is continuing response efforts to help millions who are still without power and thousands dealing with major inland flooding. Areas throughout the Northeast including New Jersey, New York and Vermont are still facing significant flood events and evacuations. Meanwhile, crews in the Outerbanks of North Carolina have deployed to feed more than 2,400 people stranded on the barrier islands with food, water and other immediate needs.

The Salvation Army Disaster Teams Converge to Combat Irene
As Hurricane Irene heads for the eastern seaboard, The Salvation Army is moving personnel and vehicles into strategic staging locations in North Carolina and Pennsylvania. From these locations The Salvation Army will dispatch mobile feeding units to provide food, drinks and spiritual and emotional care to emergency responders and those affected by the storm. Disaster response teams are already on the ground from Florida to Maine, serving first responders, assisting the evacuation of low lying areas, feeding at shelters and providing a broad range of support before Hurricane Irene makes landfall.

Salvation Army to Respond As First Hurricane Approaches
As Hurricane Irene approaches the Southeastern United States as the first hurricane of the 2011 Atlantic Hurricane Season, The Salvation Army is preparing staff, equipment and supplies to serve as needed. In the southern U.S. alone, the Army has more than 270 emergency response vehicles including canteens (mobile kitchens), shower trailers, field kitchens, and additional logistics equipment available. The Salvation Army will provide food, drinks and spiritual and emotional care to emergency responders and community members should Irene produce severe storms and damage between Florida, Georgia, the Carolinas and the greater Washington, DC area.

Salvation Army Cements Continued Relationship in Iraq
Representatives from The Salvation Army's International Headquarters (IHQ) travelled to Erbil in Iraq to formalize the ongoing relationship between The Salvation Army and the Iraqi Salvation Humanitarian Organization (ISHO). Commissioner Robin Forsyth (International Secretary for Program Resources, IHQ) and Mr. Muntajab Ibraheem (Chairman, ISHO) signed a new Memorandum of Understanding, ensuring the continued close working relationship between the two organizations. An engraved crystal bowl was presented to Mr. Muntajab to mark the occasion.

Salvation Army Partnership with Hy-Vee to Help Flood Victims in Nebraska, Iowa and South Dakota
Hy-Vee has joined in a partnership with KMTV Action 3 News, Journal Broadcast Radio and The Salvation Army to help victims of flooding. The partners are sponsoring an on-going campaign to provide clean-up kit supplies for those affected by the flood. The public is encouraged to donate items for the kits including buckets, rubber gloves, disinfectant, brushes, brooms, mops, bottled water and safety goggles.

Joplin: Photo Travels 70 Miles to Bring Hope For Recovery
Jim and Jackie Farrell of Willard, Mo., were on their 60-acre farm north of Springfield when they came across an old 8x10 photo of a 2-year-old boy taken in March 2000. They believe the photo, mostly in good shape with just a few small holes, was blown 70 miles from the town of Joplin, Mo., to their farm after the tornado on May 22.

Salvation Army Sioux City Responds to Iowa Tornadoes
The Salvation Army of Siouxland (the region surrounding Sioux City, IA) began its emergency response to the Flood of 2011 on Monday, May 30 by deploying mobile feeding units to Dakota Dunes, SD, Sioux City and throughout Dakota County, NE. Since May 30, The Salvation Army served 21,000 people with 11,000 meals and more than 20,000 snacks. Over 220 volunteers contributed nearly 2,000 hours to the relief operations.

Minnesota Twins Holding 50/50 Raffle During 'Home Game to End Homelessnes' June 18
The Minnesota Twins will hold a split-the-pot raffle at their June 18 game vs. the San Diego Padres, dubbed the "Home Game to End Homelessness." Salvation Army Flood Response in South Dakota, Iowa and Nebraska Reaches 17th Day
The Salvation Army of Siouxland (the region surrounding Sioux City, Iowa) began its emergency response to the Flood of 2011 on Monday, May 30 by deploying one of two mobile feeding units to Dakota Dunes, South Dakota. That unit has been in service next to the Incident Command Post on Dakota Dunes Blvd for the past 17 days, assisting the volunteers, residents, National Guard troops, law enforcement and others, working to build the levees to protect the community. The other canteen has been roving the Iowa and Nebraska portions of Siouxland to provide assistance to those working in Sioux City and all over Dakota County, Nebraska.

In Des Moines, Demand for Salvation Army's services continues to grow
Two thirds of the way through its fiscal year, The Salvation Army in Des Moines continues to see increases in demand for its services. Since October 1 The Salvation Army's Family Services department has served 26,463 individuals -- 17.5 percent more than during the same period a year ago. The Family Services department's goal is to help keep families fed and in their homes.
