ROSEVILLE, Minn. - The Twin Cities Salvation Army will give free coats to thousands of families on Thursday, Oct. 29 at 10 metro area locations.
Nearly 8,300 coats were collected during The Salvation Army's 2009 Coats for Kids program. The items will be distributed at Coats for Kids boutiques across the metro area on Thursday, Oct. 29 from 10 a.m. - 8 p.m., or while supplies last. The locations include Salvation Army service centers in Minneapolis, St. Paul, Brooklyn Park, Coon Rapids and Maplewood, plus East Lutheran Church in Eagan and the Buffalo Community Center in Buffalo.
Families in need of coats can call United Way 2-1-1 to find their nearest coat boutique, or visit www.givecoats.org.
The coats were collected throughout October at metro area Kowalski's Markets, Perkins restaurants, Cub Foods stores, 5 Eyewitness News, 102.9 Lite FM, AmeriPride Services and other businesses. Since beginning 24 years ago, Coats for Kids has provided nearly 270,000 coats and winter accessories to children in need. Almost 6,000 children received coats during last year's program, and hundreds more were given to adults in Salvation Army shelters.
The Twin Cities Salvation Army serves more than 200,000 people a year through its 25 local centers of operation. Daily it serves 2,000 hot meals and shelters 850 people. More than 14,000 local volunteers help
