The Salvation Army Eastern Michigan Division Ends Detroit Kroc Campaign
Reaffirms commitment to Detroit with plans for an Eastside Multi-Service Center to be completed by 2010
SOUTHFIELD, Mich., (April 17, 2009) - The Salvation Army Eastern Michigan Division announced today that it is transitioning the campaign for its Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center in Detroit to a building fund for a 20,000 to 30,000 square foot Eastside Multi-Service Center.
The new Eastside Multi-Service Center will provide The Salvation Army's full range of human service programming, as well as a wide variety of programming such as arts and drama instruction, recreation, computer education and music training that were to have been a part of the Detroit Kroc Center.
"These unprecedented economic times in Michigan, most especially in southeast Michigan, have created great uncertainty and even greater need in our community," said Major Todd Thielke, Detroit City Commander for The Salvation Army Eastern Michigan Division. "The transition from Kroc Center to Multi-Service Center will allow us to more quickly and directly address the overwhelming need for basic services being experienced by the residents of Detroit's Eastside."
Designed to be similar in size and scope to The Salvation Army's Warren Corps Community Center, the new Eastside Multi-Service Center is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2010.
