$50,000 match monies combined with $76,221 at the kettles. Thanks to all for the fantastic response!

The Community Foundation for the Fox Valley Region $50,000 match offering helped to set a record for donations made at The Salvation Army – Fox Cities red kettles on Dec. 23, 2013.

Gifts from the public totaled $76,221 at the kettles and when combined with $50,000 totaled $126,221 helping to set a record for the second highest match day of the year and the second highest history of The Salvation Army-Fox Cities’ community kettle match program.

"We're thrilled that our donors' gifts helped to spark the community to respond so generously. It's a heartwarming expression of moving beyond the me to strengthen the we," said Curt Detjen, President and CEO, Community Foundation for the Fox Valley Region.
With a theme of “Move Beyond the Me to Strengthen the We,” the Foundation’s matching dollars came from 12 different charitable funds that it manages for individuals and families to offer the $50,000 challenge match to the community.

“A similar $52,500 match offered by the Community Foundation in 2007 helped to generate a total of $114,907 for the Appleton Salvation Army,” said Robb Waugus, spokesperson for the Salvation Army.  “A national Salvation Army record for a community based match day was set in 2008 during the Thrivent Financial for Lutherans’ red kettle match day that helped to generated close to one-half million dollars ($500,000) for the Salvation Army in the Fox Cities.”

In 2013 the Salvation Army-Fox Cities offered a total of nine red kettle match days for its Christmas campaign.  The faith-based social services agency has a $1.2 million dollar Christmas fund-raising goal for 2013 which includes kettle donations, direct mail and year-end contributions. It accounts for up to 60 percent of the local Salvation Army’s operating budget. These funds provide assistance to thousands of individuals in need this Christmas and throughout the year.   The kettle campaign ended on the afternoon of Christmas Eve.
Final numbers are not yet available for annual campaign and donations are still being accepted.
