a severe storm. Discuss where you will take shelter, where you will meet after
the storm, and — if an evacuation becomes necessary — where you will go, and how
you will get there.
an emergency kit. You should have enough drinking water for three days (one
gallon, per person, per day) and food requiring little or no water to prepare.
Your kit should also include clean clothing, personal hygiene items, a first-aid
kit, and basic tools and supplies.
a battery-operated or wind-up radio handy. Even if the power goes out, you will
be able to receive important information on weather conditions.
your trees. Ensure that trees near your home are healthy and stable. Prune dead
or weak branches that could blow off and cause damage during a storm.
your insurance. Make sure you have sufficient coverage in case your home
sustains damage during a severe storm.
