Christmas Program and Guidelines

 Adopt A Family

Donor Information

Adopt-A-Family:

Is a Christmas sharing program where community members are matched with families struggling financially.  The Salvation Army qualifies families based on income and family size.

Note: We will consider families who may marginally exceed the income limits but suffer from unfortunate or special circumstances (i.e. job loss, extenuating medical issues/costs).

On the Adopt-A-Family application the parent/guardian will list gift suggestions for each child in the household.  Parent(s) are also asked to list gift suggestions for the household or themselves.

The matching process:

Our Adopt-A-Family phone lines are open from 9 AM - 4 PM from Nov. 19th to Nov. 25 (closed Thanksgiving from Nov. 26-29th) (please leave voice mail message on weekends or after hours).  And then the phone lines will re-open from Nov. 30 until Dec. 4 from 9 AM to 4 PM.

When you call, let the volunteer know the family size you want to sponsor.  They will take your information down and send you a copy of the family's gift request list.  Due to confidentiality identifying information will be omitted. The list you receive will identify age and gender of the children and adults.

Contact information:

Phone:  (920) 955-3646.  If the phone lines are busy please be patient and call back.  Or click on this e-mail link here to contact us. (for donors only)

Commonly asked questions

Who gets gifts?

In addition to the children, we suggest a small gift for each adult member listed, or a family gift that can be shared. We also recommend a gift card for up to $50 from a local grocer for the family to purchase the necessary food items to make a holiday meal.

What are the donor guidelines?

The following guidelines have been established to eliminate confusion and establish fair and consistent treatment for all, year after year.

  • Suggested maximum should not exceed $50 per child

  • You can purchase a gift for the adult(s) listed in household

  • A grocery store gift certificate (approx. $50) for the family to prepare a Christmas dinner. Do not bring food items!

  • Do not give cash

  • Call: 858-0655 with any AAF questions.

OK so $50 per child doesn't buy many gifts, can we spend more per child?

These are guidelines and each sponsor will need to determine the total amount they want to spend per child.  The reason we ask sponsors to limit the gift amount to $50 is so all recipient children are treated fair and consistent each year.  Young children will not understand why they get more gifts some years and not others.  The timeless adage "the value is in the purpose for giving, not the cost," does hold true.

When and where do I bring the gifts once I'm done shopping?

  • Bring the unwrapped gifts in a box with wrapping paper to:

Christmas Distribution Site

647 S. Green Bay Rd., Neenah (former Pick N Save store in Shopko Plaza).  From Hwy 41 take Exit 131 - Winneconne Ave.)

  • Drop off will be on Friday, Dec. 18th from 10 am to 5 pm, and Saturday, Dec. 19th from 9 am-1 pm.
