A Salvation Army emergency disaster services vehicle (canteen) was deployed to the crime scene within moments of the shootings. EDS personnel were stationed at the police command post and inside the mall?s JCPenny?s store to bring comfort and a respite to law enforcement officials responding to the tragedy. Yesterday, The Salvation Army served more than 150 officers in 10 hours, providing them with food, water and emotional and spiritual care.
?The Salvation Army extends our condolences to all of the families and individuals affected by this tragedy. We share in their sorrow and are prepared to assist them in any way necessary to help them during their loss,? said Major Merle Heatwole, in charge of The Salvation Army?s work in Nebraska, Western Iowa and South Dakota.
Today, a local fast food restaurant donated breakfast for The Salvation Army to serve to law enforcement officials who are continuing the investigation. EDS personnel will remain on the scene to provide help and hope to those affected by the horrific shootings.
The Westroads Mall remains closed today, and The Salvation Army is working with other agencies to provide assistance to victims? loved ones and the community.
