October Activities
Please take advantage of the wonderful new opportunity we have to visit with a geriatric nurse practitioner each week. Mary Shields, a neighbor in the Greenway, has volunteered to take blood pressures, consult with individuals about medical conditions, and perform minor medical services for Booth Manor residents at 5:00 p.m. every Tuesday that she is available. If she is unable to come on a particular week, we will note it on the board.
There are two Friday bingo nights scheduled for October—on the 7th and the 21st, each at 7:00 p.m. Come win some free prizes. There is never any charge to play bingo at Booth Manor!
At the inspiration of some of our residents, we will be initiating a “senior youth group” at Booth Manor. This is for everyone who wants to interact with “younger,” (there is no age limit!) more active seniors and to plan events together. If that sounds like you, please come to our first meeting on Tuesday, October 11, at 4:00 p.m.—just prior to the Open House that will be sponsored by Simon Delivers (see below). We will discuss what types of things the group would like to do.
Simon Delivers will sponsor an open house for Booth Manor residents on Tuesday, October 11, 5:00 p.m. in the Booth Manor Lounge. Come sample foods and beverages from Simon Delivers and learn more about the services they will be offering.
The van for shopping at Cub, Target and Rainbow is scheduled for Wednesday, October 12, and Tuesday, October 25. Please sign up the day before the shopping day in order to reserve your place on the van!
We are pleased to announce that the Music Club will be presenting another live concert at the October 13 meeting at 5:30 p.m. Larry Hill will once again sing for us, accompanied by Alex Daylis. What a privilege it is to have such professional talent right here at Booth Manor—and at no charge! Thank you, Alex and Larry!
Line Dancing - This is for everyone—and you don’t need a partner! Come get some great, fun exercise with Captain Crystal Joyner on Thursday, October 20, at 10:30 a.m.
The October Birthday Party will be held on Tuesday, October 25, at 3:00 p.m. in the Booth Manor Lounge. Everyone is invited to come celebrate with us!
Our first soup and sandwich supper will be held on Friday, October 14, at 5:00 p.m. Alzada Oyen’s daughter Marcia has volunteered to cook and bake—so we should have some very good food! Marcia has also volunteered to help prepare food for a Harvest Festival Supper on Friday, October 28, also at 5:00 p.m. Both of these suppers are fundraisers for our Salvation Army’s World Services assessment, so your participation will not only provide you with a good meal, but will help the work of The Salvation Army around the world. The $3.50 suggested donation will be used for World Services, not for the food (which comes out of our budget).
On Thursday, October 27, the new Senior Youth Group will meet in the lobby at 5:00 p.m. to walk across Loring Park to view the new Walker Art Center and its exhibits. Thursdays at the Walker from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. are free to everyone, and you are welcome to join us. However, we will not be providing transportation to this event since we are planning to walk.
