Harbor House Shelter - Monitor Substitute -- As Needed to cover scheduled and last minute absences plus one 16-hour position on week-ends.
hese positions are within a church-affiliated homeless shelter. The position maintains shelter security, performs clerical and reception duties, and provides general assistance to guests and shelter residents. Minimum starting pay is $8.80/hour. A High School diploma/GED certificate with one year work experience is required. A successful candidate must be a team player, self-starter, and perform well with minimum supervsion, while maintaining client confidentiality. This Case Manager is a part time 20-hour per week Position, at our Columbia Social Services Department, open until filled.
Social Services/Pathway of Hope Case Manager
We need a motivated a self-starter able to provide intake, assessment, and services to individuals seeking ESS assistance and holiday assistance. These services may include assistance with food, utility bulls, rent or mortgage payments, transportation, prescriptions, other basic needs items and Christmas food and toys. The Case Manager will recruit participants for and manage the Pathway of Hope (POH) program. This includes pre-screening and coordinating goal setting with clients and monitoring their progress. Position supervises the operation of a food pantry with one paid staff person and volunteers. Networking with community agencies, programs and referral resources to benefit the agency and its clients is a must. Compliance with and meeting The Salvation Army, Federal, State and Local policies and standards is required.
Qualifications include Bachelor's degree in human services field accompanied by at least one year related work experience with some supervisory experience. A combination of training and work experience will be considered. Strong leadership style and good organization skills required. Commitment to carry out The Salvation Army's mission is essential. Knowledge of The Salvation Army and Government, State and community resources is helpful. Candidate must have working knowledge of computers, including use of email, databases, Word and Excel. Candidate must have reliable transportation, a valid Driver's License and pass TSA MVR check. Good communication skills as well as the ability to work with diverse cultures and challenging personalities are essential.

Thrift Stores Store Worker/Truck Helper/Janitorial Position
We need a motivated self-starter able to contribute to a team effort to function as both store worker and truck helper riding on the truck and driving the truck for our church affiliated thrift stored. A 24-hour position is available at present. Minimum starting pay is $7.98/hour. High school diploma/GED with 1 year related work experience. Class E driver license, and a safe driving record is a plus. Some heavy lifting is required, with some of the work outside in winter and summer. Expected closing dates are until filled. Thrift Stores Store Workers, 12-hours/week
We need a motivated self-starter able to contribute to a team effort with the ability to perform all functions of a thrift store worker. This includes but is no limited to: recording sales transactions in cash register, handling cash, making change for purchased items, reconciling drawer at shift end and documenting the day's sales manually to paper forms, processing credit card sales, working with customers; lifting and carrying donated/ purchased items; clothes sorting operations; stocking, pricing and placing items for sale; etc. The majority of the work done in the position will be of the physical labor type. Basic communication and math skills are required.
The job does involve physical labor with typical lifting of 5 pounds, sometimes 25 up to 50 pounds, and may frequently move over 50 pounds with dolly/cart/truck. A high school diploma/equivalent diploma and 1 year related work experience is desired. Two year's experience is required without HS diploma/equivalent. Individual must be able to take instruction well, be bondable, make change, and work sometimes with minimal supervision. Minimum starting salary is $7.98/hour. Expected closing date is until filled.
