William Booth: The Man Behind the Movement
William Booth was born in Nottingham, England, in 1829. At age 13 he was sent to work as an apprentice in a pawnbroker's shop to help support his mother and sisters. He didn't enjoy his job, but it made him aware of the poverty in which people lived and the humiliation and degradation they suffered because of it. Booth became a Christian at age 15 at the Broad Street Wesleyan Methodist Chapel and spent much of his spare time sharing the good news of the gospel with others. Continue reading...
