The first Salvation Army corps was established in what is now the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) in 1934. Today the Army has more than 20,000 senior soldiers, over 8,000 junior soldiers and nearly 3,000 adherents attending 171 corps and 111 outposts.

The Salvation Army began its work in Pakistan in 1883. With just over 300 active officers and less than 200 employees-but with more than 60,000 senior soldiers, 15,000 junior soldiers and 13,000 adherents-the Salvation Army operates 130 corps, 560 outposts, seven institutions (i.e., hostels, children's homes), five training/resource centers and three schools.

One of the many research papers presented at The Salvation Army International Historical Conference in Sydney, Australia, was presented by George Hazell, an authority on The Salvation Army's founder, William Booth. Hazell is a recipient of the prestigious Order of the Founder designation.
