what if

The Harbor Light hosts two mobile units that provide ministry to the homeless and those in need:  Mobile Outreach and Mobile Feeding.  Mobile Outreach is an expanded program of Mobile Feeding and was introduced in Fall 2008.

The vision of the Frontline Feeding program at Harbor Light is to meet the immediate need of a hot meal in such a way as to build a relationship and assist in meeting any other additional needs (ie. homelessness, addictions, mental health issues.)  An encouraging word and the knowledge that someone cares can have a profound effect on the life of a person-in-need.

Mobile Outreach

Mobile Outreach provides meals, case management, and ministry to the homeless throughout the city of Chicago.  The staff consists of: two case workers, a degreed mental health specialist, a Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CADC), as well as drivers and assistants. They provide on-site assessments, referals, and a hot meal.  A unique part of the Mobile Outreach Unit is the service's ability to provide immediate transportation to a treatment or related facility to any individuals who are willing to accept immediate help.

The Mobile Outreach Unit operates from 9am - 5pm Monday through Friday.

Mobile Feeding

Every night, the Mobile Feeding Unit serves hot meals to those living under the bridges and on the streets of Chicago.  We serve 800 meals a night; just over a quarter million meals each year.  But it is more than a "meal". It is a chance to build a relationship and remind those we help that, not only have they not been forgotten... they are cared about and loved.

The feeding routes are from 3 - 10:30pm Sunday through Sunday.

How Can I get Involved?

Volunteers are needed on either of the units for most shifts.  Individuals or small groups are best suited for this activity.

Those who are not able to assist as volunteers can still help by offering their financial support to this vital community searvice.
