THE SALVATION ARMY CONTINUES MISSOURI, ILLINOIS FLOOD RESPONSE

The Salvation Army continues to assist flood-affected residents of Missouri and Illinois as waters recede and emergency personnel are able to respond. Since the Mississippi River flooding began in early June, Salvation Army mobile feeding units (canteens) have served more than 98,000 meals, almost 17,000 sandwiches, over 39,000 snacks, more than 550,000 beverages and touched the lives of residents in ten different counties and dozens of communities. As of yesterday, more than 700 Salvation Army volunteers have worked in excess of 4,200 hours to provide assistance to those in need.

The Salvation Army is distributing food, clean-up kits and hygiene kits. Canteens continue to operate in Missouri’s Lincoln and Pike Counties as clean-up efforts are underway. The Salvation Army will also provide financial assistance and vouchers to flood-affected residents of the two states referred by other agencies.

Monetary donations earmarked “Disaster Relief” may be sent to your local Salvation Army, made online at www.salvationarmyusa.org or by calling 1-800-SAL-ARMY.
