LOS ANGELES, CA (September 1, 2009) – The deadly California wildfire, dubbed the Station Fire, continued to ravage large parts of southern California forest for the sixth consecutive day. The fires currently cover more than 122,000 acres and are threatening some populated areas. Since Saturday and Sunday, The Salvation Army has been supporting evacuees who have been impacted by this extremely large fire at emergency shelters set up throughout the region.

·    The Salvation Army provided meals to more than 150 evacuees at Crescenta Valley High School (2900 Community Ave; La Crescenta, CA) over the weekend
·    The Salvation Army supported the shelter population of more than 60 at Highland High School in Palmdale (39055 25th St; W Palmdale, CA) for those evacuated due to the Station Fire’s approach to the town of Acton
·    The Salvation Army in Pasadena is providing meal services to those who have sought shelter from the fire at Golden Valley High School in Santa Clarita (27051 Robert C. Lee Parkway; Santa Clarita, CA)
·    The Salvation Army will now be providing lunch and dinner to the growing evacuee population at La Canada High School (4463 Oak Grove Dr;
La Canada, CA)
·    The Salvation Army is in communication with other case management agencies in preparation of assisting those who have lost their homes

The Salvation Army’s Southern California Division is now supporting all six of the emergency shelters established in response to the Station Fire. Currently, the needs of the first responders are being met by city, county and state government agencies. Monetary donations are the most pressing need.
