2009 Backpack/School Supplies Giveaway
The Salvation Army expects more than 500 children to come to the Community Center on August 12th to pick up their backpacks and school supplies to get ready to go Back-to-School. The Army, running woefully short of supplies, asks the public to donate backpacks and supplies by August 10th. The filled backpack will be given at no cost to low income children on Wednesday, August 12th from 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. Needed are backpacks for children K-12 and supplies such as pencils, rulers, erasers, glue sticks, spiral notebooks, pencil sharpeners, ball point pens, two- pocket folders and crayons. The Salvation Army suggests that as parents purchase school supplies for their children, they consider adding a few additional items to their shopping cart, destined for a child in need. Donors are asked to take their new school supplies to The Salvation Army, 2625 Potter St. (one block north of 27th and Holdrege) from 9 a.m. - 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Donations are tax deductible. Monetary donations will be used to purchase additional supplies. For more information, call 474-6263.
