The Salvation Army began in 1865 when
William Booth,a London minister, gave up
the comfort of his pulpit and decided to
take his message into the streets where
it wouldreach the poor, the homeless,
the hungry and the destitute.
By 1880, The Salvation Army had
spread to 36 countries around
the globe,including the United States.
Just 6 short years later,
The Salvation Army made it
to the midwest and by 1889,The Salvation Army
arrived in Macomb.
Now, some 125 years later,
The Salvation Army is determined
to continue the work of its founder- William Booth.
That work is found in our mission statement.
