The People

Malawi is home to over 14 million people.  They are a young people, with 45% of the population under the age of 15 and the median age of country being 17 years old.  Approximately 3.5 million children are enrolled in primary and secondary schools - a little over half of the country's youth.

The people of Malawi face poverty everyday.  52 percent of the people live below the poverty line, with most individuals earning less than $1 a day.  Of that percent, 94.5% live in rural areas, where resources are scarcer.

Despite the overwhelming challenges they face, the people of Malawi are full of joy and are an encouragement to everyone.  Though they have essentially nothing, they are grateful for everything, considering it a gift from God.  Their positive spirit is easily seen through their lives and through all the hard work they accomplish in their day to day struggle to make ends meet.
