The Salvation Army began its work in Malawi in 1967 and has seen significant growth throughout the years. In striving to meet human needs, the Malawi Command has developed several community development and social service projects and has expanded its corps work, with many new corps openings and outposts in the Northern District.
Projects have included:
- Adult Literacy
- Agriculture, Irrigation, Food Security Program
- Feeding/Food for Work
- HIV/Aids Home-based Care
- Micro-credit Schemes
- Orphans and Vulnerable Children
- Rural Women Empowerment (inc boreholes)
- Hans Andersen Memorial Youth Centre for Child Anti-Trafficking
Despite having very limited resources, the Malawi Command has been able to create centers and programs that provide a support system for physical, emotional, and spiritual needs, furthering the mission of The Salvation Army and helping to eliminate some of the need in Malawi.
However, the need continues to be great.
