Emergency Disaster Services - Responder Training

Happy Spring! In my last email I mentioned that it could be a very busy EDS Spring with flooding issues. Well, we did have some flooding in the Division and even a Earthquake on the Wabash Fault, but so far we are doing alright. But that doesn't mean we are out of the woods yet.

So, now is a great time to get ready for what may be a head in 2008.

Again I want to mention that, National Headquarters now requires all EDS Responders, volunteers, employees and Officers, to be trained. The 2 basic courses that are needed to respond with The Salvation Army in times of Disasters.

1. Introduction to Salvation Army Emergency Disaster Services
2. Food Service- Handling and Delivery (this now includes a ServSafe Certificate)

The EDS Department will be offering these courses on a regular basis throughout the year. If you are interested in this training as an employee, please speak to your supervisor to clarify if it is a part of your job to respond. Attendance during work hours will require your supervisors approval.

If you are interested in volunteering with The Salvation Army in this way, we also offer the courses in the evenings to accommodate volunteers in the region.
You are welcome to attend those courses. We are always looking for people to help in disasters.

If you are an Officer you will want to consider who in your command should receive this training. And just to clarify, Officers will need to take this training to receive their I.D. Badge and be eligible to respond in future disasters.

Here are the dates for the Second Quarter of 2008:
