The Salvation Army Harbor Light is deeply committed to the care, development, comfort, and basic worth of human life. This commitment is expressed through programs designed to improve the quality of life of each individual without regard to race, color, sexual orientation or creed.

At the heart of our services lies a fundamental belief in the value of each person, each of whom is treated with compassion, patience, and respect, resulting in a spiritual awakening. In order to obtain a voucher to participate in our Emergency Housing program, please visit Hennepin County Human Services.

The Salvation Army is proud to help millions of people from all backgrounds. Over the years, our organization has expanded to allow for multiple services and programs, benefiting those with basic needs and those who require unique assistance.

Public Nutrition:  Harbor Light serves more than 1,000 meals to homeless or isolated individuals each day.  At 6 p.m. daily, the general public is invited to partake in a nutritionally balanced meal.  To the hungry and the homeless, this is a clear message of care, respect, and consideration.

B.O.L.T.: Harbor Light's B.O.L.T. (Basics of Life Training) program is a comprehensive residential program which focuses on five key components(spiritual, educational, vocational, physical, and relational), B.O.L.T. takes a holistic approach to addressing behavior patterns that have contributed to an individual's dependency on society.

eQuipped For Success: A computer lab offers Harbor Light clients and area residents Internet access to expand educational opportunities, increase client employment and employability, and improve communication between clients and their families.  Trained instructors educate clients on computer usage and assist them in applying their skills through resume building and job searching.  The lab can also be used to take college or GED courses online.

Housing:  A full range of emergency and transitional shelter opportunities provide clean surroundings, a hot meal, and a warm bed to over 300 people each night. Emergency shelter programs provide up to three balanced meals each day.  Services include employment counseling, subsidized housing, and substance abuse recovery.  A special needs unit is available for the elderly, disabled, or those with medical or mental health needs.

H.O.P.E. Harbor: The housing complex, located next door to the Harbor Light facility, assists previously homeless individuals with long-term housing.  As an extension of Harbor Light services, H.O.P.E. (Housing Opportunities for People to Excel) Harbor serves 96 single adults with shelter and training in self-sufficiency skills.

Beacon Program:  This 12-step-based substance abuse program is administered by a multi-disciplinary team and includes in-patient services, halfway house facilities, and follow-up non-residential treatment to chemically dependent adult men.  The program offers a special emphasis on vocational evaluation, vocational testing, and placement efforts.  Clients are encouraged to find educational and/or employment placement within the first 60 days.

Health Care: Health care services are available three days a week through the Hennepin County Healthcare for the Homeless Project.  This is a critical partnership with county resources and is housed on the first floor of the Harbor Light Center.  In addition, alternative medicine solutions are offered free of charge through our partnership with Northwestern Health Sciences University.
