Volunteer
From its inception, The Salvation Army has relied heavily on volunteers in all of its programs. Often referred to as “the army behind The Army," volunteers play a crucial role in The Salvation Army's ability to strengthen and extend its services throughout the community.
Volunteers are valuable assets in The Salvation Army's efforts to meet the changing needs of our community. Through the skills and experience they bring to The Army, volunteers make significant contributions not only in terms of time, but also in terms of the impact on the lives of those they assist. There is a place for anyone who is willing to help!
Here are some of the ways volunteers make a difference at the Harbor Light Center:
Computer Lab - Provide oversight to clients using the computer lab. Assist clients with basic computer skills - email, word processing, job searches, job applications.
Food Service - Assist kitchen staff to prepare and serve meals, and to clean and organize as directed.
Office Help - Answering & directing phone calls, organizing files, typing material into the computer, helping with organization of office or project materials, preparing materials for meetings.
Prayer Cards - Make prayer cards (either by hand or with the computer); sort cards into topics or seasons, and organize them into envelopes; clean up area when done; return the supplies and cards to craft area.
Cleaning Outdoors - Sweeping and picking up garbage in the parking lot, flower areas, sidewalks, and freeway fence area. Supplies will be provided.
Cleaning Indoors - Assisting the House Keeping staff by cleaning individual floors. (Sweeping, mopping, taking out garbage, laundry) Supplies will be provided.
Clothes Closet - Sort and organize the many types of clothing donations that we receive. Sort clothing and bag them according to male or female, sizes and seasons. Match shoes and sort them into male and female and place them into boxes according to their sizes.
