Position Title: Culinary Intern
Reports To: Food Services Coordinator
SUMMARY OF POSITION
This position works in coordination with the Kitchen Manager, Cooks and Food Service Assistants to ensure that each meal is served safely and timely.
DESCRIPTION OF POSITION
- Assist in the preparation and delivery of meals
- Assist in utilizing donated foods
- Assist in unloading donations and bought food
- Assist in developing meal plans to use donated food
- Assist in developing ways to utilize more volunteers in the food service department
- Assist in ordering and menu development
- Develop a menu calendar for the Harbor Light
- Develop new dishes that can be repeated by other staff in the kitchen
QUALIFICATIONS
- Must be Serv Safe certified.
- Ability to work with volunteers and staff.
- Understanding of the delivery of food services in relation to the above fields of knowledge
- Ability to work well with clients of diverse cultural and socioeconomic groups; respects confidentiality; able to work within ethical and legal parameters of social services
- Willingness to work in an environment with a flexible work schedule and in a team environment
- Willingness to support the philosophy, goal, mission, and objectives of The Salvation Army
- Must pass the background checks.
- Must complete the Safe from Harm course within 90 days of the date of hire.
Position Title: Operations and Security Intern
Reports To: Operations Director
SUMMARY OF POSITION
This position is responsible for working with Operations to develop procedures that enhance the security of the facility. This position will assist in inputting data and finding ways to sort and utilize the data to create a safer environment. This position will work along side security in the day to day operations of the Harbor Light Center.
DESCRIPTION OF POSITION
- Assist data entry and data collection
- Work within the community to develop alliances with other agencies and corporations
- Monitor front desk and assist with keying people upstairs.
- Perform various driving duties including helping residents moving in and out
- Help maintain organization and filing
- Assist with training classes in our Basics Of Life Training program including computer literacy
- Assist in the oversight of incoming calls
- Develop preventive maintenance schedules
QUALIFICATIONS
- Obtaining an education in a human services or related field
- Obtaining experience and knowledge in the fields of HIV/AIDS, Mental Health, Chemical Addiction and Homelessness required
- Ability to work well with clients of diverse cultural and socioeconomic groups; respects confidentiality; able to work within ethical and legal parameters of social services
- Willingness to work in an environment with a flexible work schedule and in a team environment
- Willingness to support the philosophy, goal, mission, and objectives of The Salvation Army

Position Title: Social Services Intern
Reports To: Case Manager
SUMMARY OF POSITION
This position is responsible for establishing and maintaining working relationships with the residents of Harbor Light Center by working with existing Advocates and Case Managers and implementing a case plan, establishing goals and evaluation of services provided, and by providing direct services to residents in a professional manner.
DESCRIPTION OF POSITION
- Work with advocates and case managers to gain an understanding about homelessness.
- Float with advocates to work on the following to learn how and then actively participate.
- Intake
- Counseling
- Client education
- Assessment
- Treatment planning
- Case management
- Crisis intervention
- Keep reports and records while working with clients
- Consult with other professionals in regard to client treatment services
- Assist transitional housing clients with case plans for schooling
- Help teach classes in Basics of Life training program including; Recovery class, Computer literacy, and Business class.
- Develop a method to measure outcomes for social service programs including criteria and follow-up.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Obtaining an education in a human services or related field
- Obtaining experience and knowledge in the fields of HIV/AIDS, Mental Health, Chemical Addiction and Homelessness required
- Understanding of the delivery of Social Services and Eligible benefits in relation to the above fields of knowledge
- Ability to work well with clients of diverse cultural and socioeconomic groups; respects confidentiality; able to work within ethical and legal parameters of social services

Position Title: Volunteer Coordinating Intern
Reports To: Business Administrator
SUMMARY OF POSITION
This position is responsible for establishing and maintaining working relationships with administrative staff of the Harbor Light Center to enhance the work being done with community and corporate volunteers.
DESCRIPTION OF POSITION
- Design job descriptions & Job Classifications for volunteers
- Plays games w/ clients
- Organize a picnic for clients
- Look for volunteer opportunities that would enhance the lives of residents
- Determine guidelines to structure volunteer opportunities
- Advisory Council
- Structure developing a plan to maintain and enhance the council
- Organize data for the Advisory Council
QUALIFICATIONS
- Obtaining an education in a human services or related field
- Obtaining experience and knowledge in the fields of HIV/AIDS, Mental Health, Chemical Addiction and Homelessness required
