On Friday Night,
March 11, the Women's Ministries groups of the St. Joseph, MO Corps hosted its
second Chili/Soup Cook-off and Auction with all funds raised going to World
Missions.
We had 8 entries of chili and/or soup that cost 50 cents a
cup to taste and then everyone voted on the best! During the dinner hour we had
a silent auction area where bids were made and door prizes were given every 15
minutes to attendees. After dinner, the silent auction items were completed and
the live auction began. The ladies were very committed to this event and
acquired many donations from vendors in the community. We also had those who
made items to donate and one individual donated a riding lawn mower that he had
recently purchased.
The auctioneer was David Hugger and during the
auction challenged the crowd to make an effort to do their part by sharing our
blessings to help those on the mission field and those they serve.
Our attendance doubled from the first year and we ran out of food due to the
large crowd. Last year we raised $1500.00 and this year we were able to raise
$2500.00! The Kansas & Western Missouri Divisional Headquarters will also
match up to $1000.00 of our funds raised bringing our final total for World
Missions from our Women's Ministries group to $3500.00.
We already
have many excited individuals and are making plans for the future to enhance
this event and to bring it the next level. We're looking for bigger and better
donations and crowds to attend.
We thank God for blessing this event
to allow us to do our part for those who are called into in the world to share
the good news of the Gospel!
