"Hakuna Mungu Kama Wewe." Swahili words that translate in
English to "There's no one, there's no one like Jesus" indeed was the song of
praise that the Kenya West Global Mission Team (GMT) proclaimed as their
testimony in April, as they partnered with local Salvationists to complete a
variety of projects. Ten Central Territory Salvationists traveled to the city
of Kakamega and immersed themselves in the life, work and culture of West
Kenya. Their ministry included building and installing a roof, many, many
painting projects, worship ministry and most importantly, relationship-building
with the kind and friendly people of the Kenya West Territory. They quickly
understood why Commissioner William Roberts, Territorial Commander, loves to
exclaim "Kenya West is the best!" as they enjoyed the joy and hospitality of
the region at every turn.

One of the best memories included having
tea each day, and sometimes several times a day! Tea, water, coffee, biscuits,
popcorn, eggs, mangos, peanuts and the list goes on-these were served by
gracious hosts to the team as they took breaks from the day's work. Providing
such a feast often came at a cost to the various corps, yet they would have it
no other way. Slowing down to take the tea break was new to the team, but they
quickly came to love the time of fellowship, and returned home reminded that
relationships require taking the time to develop, time that having tea allows!
Seeing the Salvationists' support of each other and their corps through work
and worship, an all day funeral service that involved hundreds from the
community, teaching children songs and dance, and much more, provided many
lessons for the Global Mission Team, and they left Kenya feeling closer
to their great and glorious Lord. Lesson learned: Hakuna Mungu Kama
Wewe!
