The Sponsorship program was started in the Central Territory (Midwest) in 1989 and gives us, who have been blessed with so much, the opportunity to give back and help a child in need. Though you may never meet the children you sponsor you will make a life-changing impact and give them hope for a better tomorrow.
For $25 a month, you can sponsor a Salvation Army children’s home or Salvation Army children’s programs in one of 31 different countries around the world. Your giving will provide food, clothing, educational opportunities, medicine and shelter for children who otherwise would go without.
When you become a sponsor you will receive the name of the children's home or program, along with a photo and brief description about the location. You will also be able to correspond with the home or program you sponsor through the Child Sponsorship Office in Des Plaines, Ill. Helpful hints for correspondence:
All mail should be sent through the Sponsorship Office
Please do not write personal addresses on your correspondence – the letter will be sent through The Salvation Army
We encourage you to send photos of yourself and your family. It’s a great way to communicate – no language barrier
Please do not send small gifts. You may send flat items such as stickers, cards, photos and ribbons
Monetary gifts for Christmas and birthdays is spent at the discretion of the staff who oversse the children’s home or program
Correspondence from the home you sponsor may be irregular due to costs and difficulty of the mail service in the country, etc. If the children are young or unable to communicate for other reasons, the staff at the home or program will maintain correspondence. Since many of the programs are understaffed this is often difficult and regular correspondence is not always possible. Thank you for your understanding in this matter
