TREE OF LIGHTS CAMPAIGN
GOAL ALMOST REACHED
Donations are up approximately 4% from this time last year
Springfield, MO (January 20, 2013) - With less than two weeks left to go in the Tree of Lights Christmas Campaign The Salvation Army reports that donations are up about 4% from this time last year.
"This is wonderful news," Major Norman Grainger, Ozark Area Coordinator said. Especially when considering that the economic climate still appears to remain quite uncertain."
Currently, The Salvation Army has reached approximately 96% of its $1,000,000 fundraising goal; to date, $963,819 has been donated. Funds received during the annual Tree of Lights Campaign allow The Salvation Army to provide vital programs and services to thousands of local Ozarks' residents.
"We are truly grateful for every single donation received," Grainger said. "These donations allow us to continue to help those here in the local community who are struggling, those who are hurting and those who are working toward changing their lives for the better."
Last year, The Salvation Army provided more than 110,000 meals to the hungry, assisted 11,500 local residents with social service programs and distributed nearly 7,000 bags of food to families and low-income senior citizens.
"Donations allow us to help families put food on their tables, provide shelter for those who have nowhere else to go and operate safe and affordable programs for children and senior citizens," Grainger said.
Funding received through the Tree of Lights campaign also supports shelter & housing programs such as the Emergency Cold Weather Shelter, which so far this year has provided shelter for 145 individuals.
