THE SALVATION ARMY PARTNERS WITH LOCAL COMPANIES
TO PROVIDE PLAYGROUND FOR YOUTH
Local companies partner with The Salvation Army to provide a safe playground for their Summer Day Camp and After School Recreational Activities, community outreach events and other youth activities.
The Miracle Recreation Company of Monett, MO., manufactured the new playground equipment. Miracle is the oldest and largest manufacturer of playground equipment in the United States and has been in business for over 80 years. Gunter H. Stein, the local Miracle Recreation representative designed the layout for the new equipment after consulting with the staff of the Salvation Army. Miracle will also provide technical assistance to approximately 100 volunteers from T-Mobile USA who will install the playground equipment. "The Miracle Recreation Equipment of Monett, MO., was proud to be chosen as the manufacturer of the playground equipment that will be installed at the Salvation Army in Springfield, MO," said Gunter Stein. To help make the project possible, the Asplundh Company donated Mulch, Conco Concrete Companies donated Concrete and Team Tools donated Tools for the project.
The new playground equipment will be installed at The Salvation Army, located at 1707 W. Chestnut Expressway, on August 12th and 13th. "We will have approximately 50 volunteers each day to help with the project," stated Mark Jones from T-Mobile USA. On the first day volunteers will start assembling the Play System and then have the concrete poured in the footings. On the second they will finish assembling the Play System, relocate the old swing set and then finish by placing the mulch and border. The unveiling of the new playground will take place on August 23rd at 6:00 pm during a Community Outreach Event at The Salvation Army.
The Springfield Cardinal's will record the service project during its construction phase and at the unveiling. This will then be viewed on the video board at the Texas League Division Playoff game on Thursday, September 10, 2009. Tickets for the game, fun zone and dinner have been purchased for The Salvation Army Community Center children to attend along with friends from T-Mobile. Before the game the children will be on the field for a Pre-game "parade" along with throwing out a first pitch for the game.
