 Mayor Bob Stephens to declare it Salvation Army Week in Springfield

Springfield MO (May 10, 2012) On Monday May 14th Mayor Bob Stephens will present a proclamation declaring it Salvation Army Week in Springfield. The public is invited to attend this event, which will take place at 10 a.m. outside The Salvation Army's Family Thrift Store at 1737 S. Campbell Ave.

      Major Norman Grainger will also thank the community for its continued support, which has allowed The Salvation Army to help local families and individuals for more than 130 years.

    Following the proclamation presentation local residents will share how The Salvation Army has helped them change their lives.

    An Emergency Disaster Services canteen will also be onsite serving coffee & doughnuts to those in attendance. Then on Tuesday May 15th the canteen will serve coffee and doughnuts to Springfield police officers and firefighters beginning at 6 a.m.

     National Salvation Army Week is an annual event that allows The Salvation Army to say ‘thank you' to the many volunteers, donors and supports who have allowed the organization to help those in need around the world since 1865. It was first recognized and declared by president Dwight D. Eisenhower in 1954.
