THE SALVATION ARMY
WILL CONTINUE TO RESPOND TO THE COLD WEATHER
The Salvation Army continues to respond to the cold temperatures. More than two dozen individuals have taken advantage of our cold weather shelter facilities since the onset of the severe weather, some staying longer than others, said Major Grainger. Last night nine individuals stayed at the shelter. With more cold weather in the forecast we will be open tonight. Individuals seeking shelter are given a hot breakfast and arrangements are made for a noon and evening meal. While in our building, many individual are given additional assistance through our social service office or directed to other service that may help. People are welcome to stop by our building at 1707 W. Chestnut Expressway and get out of the cold and have a cup of hot coffee anytime during our regular office hours between 8:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m.
The Salvation Army works alongside the Victory Mission, The Kichen, the Red Cross, Council of Churches and the United Way of the Ozarks in the activation of the Extreme Weather Shelter for Greene County.
The Salvation Army offers year round long-term intervention programs for helping those who wish to break the cycle of homelessness. The Harbor House provides an opportunity for men struggling with addiction to re-establish themselves in the community. Classes, counseling and work experience along with accountability and a safe environment give men a new start in life. The Family Enrichment Center provides a nurturing and safe place for families who are homeless. The New Start Housing program is a transitional housing program for those currently living in a shelter situation. These programs are currently full.
