HELP STAMP OUT HUNGER
Nationwide on Saturday, May 9, 2009, the National Association of Letter Carriers will hold their 17th Annual Food Drive. On this day we ask postal patrons to leave non-perishable food items in or near their mailbox for their Letter Carrier to pick-up as they deliver their routes.
Locally this will be the 17th year for NALC Branch #203 to participate in the food drive. In 2008, we collected over 110,000 pounds of food in the Ozarks area. Sheri Kennicott, NALC Food Drive Coordinator says, "With the help of the community I think we can have another record breaking year."
Supporting the drive again this year are Campbell Soup Company, the U.S. Postal Service, America's Second Harvest - the Nation's Food Bank Network, Valpak - Cox Target Media, the AFL-CIO and United Way of America. We also have the participation and cooperation of the Rural Carriers, the American Postal Workers Union, and United Way of the Ozarks; in Springfield, Aurora, Bolivar, Branson, Mt. Vernon, Ozark, Nixa, Republic and West Plains as well as other Post Offices throughout the Ozarks area.
Donated items in Springfield will be distributed to The Salvation Army, The Kitchen, Grand Oak Mission, and Victory Mission. Surrounding areas will give donated items to local food pantries in their towns.
