76 FOR 76 GOLF TOURNAMENT
RAISES MORE THAN $9,000
Proceeds will benefit The Salvation Army's Branson Corps
Springfield, MO (May 31, 2012) On Monday May 21st, Panera Bread and dozens of charity-minded individuals and businesses helped raise more than $9,000 for The Salvation Army's Branson Corps during the '76 for 76 Golf Tournament'. The funds will be used to help the Branson Corps recover from the February 29th tornado and allow them to continue helping local residents in need all year long.
"This donation is greatly appreciated and much needed," Branson Corps Officer, Major Robert Meyer, said. "The generosity shown by the many who spontaneously participated and the ambition shown by our friends at Panera Bread will make a meaningful impact on our ability to serve others in practical ways in Branson."
On February 29th, a powerful EF2 tornado tore through the Branson area causing damage throughout the community including at The Salvation Army's Branson Corps - where damage estimates total approximately $170,000. The storm ripped off part of the Branson Corps' roof, destroyed its passenger van, shattered several large windows and damaged food in the Emergency Food Pantry.
"The efforts of all involved demonstrate true compassion and many lives will be blessed by these acts of kindness," Meyer said.
During the Branson-area disaster relief efforts The Salvation Army provided more than 4,500 meals, drinks & snacks to first-responders, storm survivors and clean-up crews. Nearly 200 Taney and Stone county storm survivors were also provided with more than $15,000 worth of assistance - including vouchers for food, gasoline and to replace personal belongings. The Branson Corps is still in need of the following items for its Emergency Food Pantry: peanut butter, breakfast cereals, canned meats, baby food and paper products. For more information about donating these items please call the Branson Corps at (417) 339-4434.
To support the year-round outreach of The Salvation Army Branson Corps financial contributions can be sent to The Salvation Army Branson Corps, P.O Box 1715, or by calling 1-800-SAL-ARMY or by visiting http://donate.salvationarmyusa.org - 82¢ of every dollar goes directly toward programs & services that help local Ozarks residents in need.
The Salvation Army and those we serve wish to thank every individual, business and organization that helped make this event possible - especially Panera Bread and Millwood Golf & Racquet Club!
