The Salvation Army began in 1865 when
William Booth,a London minister, gave up
the comfort of his pulpit and decided to
take his message into the
streets where
it wouldreach the poor, the homeless,
the hungry
and the destitute.
By 1880,
The Salvation Army had
spread to 36 countries around
the
globe,including the United
States.
Just 6 short years
later,
The Salvation Army made it
to the midwest and in June
of
1892,The Salvation Army
arrived in Muscatine.
Now, some
118 years later,
The Salvation Army is determined
to continue the
work of its founder- William Booth.
That work is foundin our
mission statement.
