Food Pantry Volunteers
The Salvation Army need volunteers to assist with the Food Pantry which is open to clients Monday - Friday 9:00a.m. - 12:00p.m. Occasionally there will be projects in the food pantry during the afternoon that volunteers can assist with.
General volunteer duties in the food pantry consist of stocking and organizing shelves, sorting and checking dates on food and miscellaneous donations, assisting clients through the pantry, and cleaning of the pantry.
The food pantry at the Corps is different from other pantries in the community because it allows the clients to "shop" the shelves. Clients are greeted and checked in. Volunteers walk through the rows of the Food Pantry with the client to aid in the proper selection of food products. The amount of food received may vary between visits, and is primarily determined by the Social Services Manager, Jean, during their scheduled interview. Once through the pantry the volunteer will assist in documenting how much food was given out, and help the client on their way out.
