The Salvation Army

The Salvation Army, an international movement, is an evangelical part of the universal Christian church.  Its message is based on the Bible.  It's ministry is motivated by the love of God.  Its mission is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and to meet human needs in His name without discrimination.

Founded in 1865 by William and Catherine Booth, The Salvation Army was a response to the poor, marginalized and underprivilaged masses who were otherwise being overlooked in the east side of downtown London.

As the movement grew, it acquired military terminology to help organize the social service and evangelistic efforts.  It also represented a direct action against the personal, societal and spiritual forces that existed to oppress certain groups of people.

Today, The Salvation Army exists in the same light.  Its mission is to seek our those who are poor, marginalized, lost and to battle the systemic and personal oppressions with the love of God.
