Dave's Story

Hi,

My name is Dave, and I recently was a resident at the Emergency shelter in Sheboygan County. I was staying in a garage before I ended up at the shelter. I had to give up my apartment over 1 year due to going back to drinking and the slow economy. I got in legal trouble due to drinking and now I was going to do some jail time. Took the garage room for two reasons to keep my dog Rita the husky and cheap rent. After closing my jail time my temporary job ended and I slipped into a depression. I drank and took some medication and ended up in back in jail on PO hold. Getting back out of jail and back in the garage, I prayed to the Lord to intervene in my life. And about 2 weeks later I had water coming in the garage 3 times in 1 weeks time. I talked to Joe Rupnik at the SA and he informed me that the Humane Society would watch my dog while I was in the shelter. Tat was a relief to me and my decision to come to the shelter. Hope, dignity, respect, and a chance to succeed I now am writing this letter in my apartment, with my dog with a smile on my face looking at my dog by my feet. First and foremost I would like to give Glory and Honor to the Lord God Almighty for making this possible. Also with gratitude and a wordless wonder and how all this happened especially without much money.  God and The Salvation Army and the dignity, respect and hope received by the staff at the SCSA! Thanks to all the staff and people who make it happen. And Rita also. Thank you.  God Bless!

 Tamara's Story

Above: Tamara and her son, Jameson, are getting their lives back on track thanks to The Salvation Army and donors like you.

"My name is Tamara, and I live at The Salvation Army's Emergency Lodge with my two-year-old son.

"I am a recovering alcoholic and drug addict. I've been delivered from drugs and alcohol for nearly 11 months. I spent six months in the Sheboygan County Jail, where the Good News Prison and Jail Ministry touched my life.

"I read The Purpose Driven Life, and it brought me back to the Word. I take the cross up daily and am a true servant of Jesus Christ.

We are taking steps to get our lives back on track with the help of people who really care.

"I have court fines and other debts. I also have felony charges for bail jumping. Although the original felony charge was dropped, I was still convicted of felony charges for breaking the conditions of multiple bails and bonds by continuing to drink.

"Because I'm a felon, I can't enter programs such as Project Hope or get low-income housing. My church family isn't able to let me live with them because of state laws regarding felons. The good news is that my three years of probation can be transferred to California.

"I was born and raised in California and moved to Sheboygan from Oregon three years ago when I had a run-in with the law. My hope was always to return to the west coast, and yesterday I learned that my probation officer is willing to transfer my probation. It could take up to 45 days if it is the Lord's will. I hope and pray that I will be home with my mom, two sisters, and four nieces.

"The Salvation Army is the only safe place for my son and me to be. I don't ever want to return to my old life and refuse to put my son and me in a compromising position. I'm here because I know no one is going to be high on drugs or drunk. We are taking the steps to get our lives back on track with the help of people who really care. "
