John Gowans Preschool - Rwimiyaga

Salvation Army is an outpost of Nyagatare Salvation Army. Rwimiyaga is in a bustling market town – there seem to be people, bicycles and children everywhere! John Gowans preschool was commenced in 2010 by a group of parents in association with the Salvation Army.

It was decided by the parents committee and local authorities that school fees of 1000 Rwfs ($1.70 USD) per month would be contributed by the parents for each child to pay the teacher’s salary.

The preschool has grown and there are now 113 children attending. They have recently employed a second teacher who is looking after the younger children. They are using the community hall for school where the outpost also worships on a Sunday.

The older children are fortunate to have tables and chairs but because there are so many of them they are very crowded. They also have some basic teaching aids but not sufficient for the number of children.

The Sponsorship money would be used for teaching materials, toys, balls, cooking utensils, school uniforms.
