Get Involved - Volunteer

April 18-24 marks National Volunteer Week! This is  a time to honor those who have selflessly given back to their communities and hopefully take an opportunity to serve where needed.

President Nixon established National Volunteer Week in 1974 through an executive order, and this annual tradition continues to be widely recognized. President Obama even issued a proclamation yesterday, as reported by All Headline News.

Will you volunteer some of your time and effort this week? Consider contacting your local Salvation Army to see how you can be used to impact your community for the better! Visit our website here to find a Salvation Army near you.

Thank you for your interest in volunteering for The Salvation Army. Volunteers truly are integral to The Salvation Army's effectiveness. The ways that you can help are innumerable and astonishingly diverse. Possibilities range from behind the scenes clerical duties to teaching English as a second language, from sorting items at a thrift store or food pantry to supervising children's athletic programs.

Volunteering is simple! The Salvation Army offers many volunteer opportunities in Washtenaw County.

 Court Ordered Community Service

 Our hours of operation are Monday through Friday from 9:00 to 4:00pm.  If you are unable to work within these time parameters, we suggest you seek out other volunteer organizations.

 If you are inquiring about earning Community Service hours you must contact the Developement Director, Debra Molitor prior to signing up for hours. As all community service documentation must be completed and you must complete a background check before volunteering.

 If you are interested in performing Court Ordered Community Service, you will need to complete the following the paperwork;

                        Community Service Application

                        Guidelines for Adults working w/Children or Youths

                        Work Program Acknowledgement and Release

If you are under 18 years of age, your legal guardian must complete the Parental Consent Form and Release of Liability form; furthermore, we are only accepting volunteers age 16 and up.

Submit the above listed documentation to our office, and at that time we are required to take a copy of your Court Ordered paperwork (which states the infraction and that you were assigned community service) and a copy of photo ID.

Once the completed paperwork is submitted to DHQ, the background check is completed and approved, you may begin earning community service hours.

We schedule individuals for community service based on the need for help within the Plymouth Corps.  We can not guarantee that there will be an opportunity to complete mandatory community service, and if this is the case we suggest you seek out additional community service opportunities within the community.
