VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES FOR WASHTENAW COUNTY:

DRIVERS NEEDED TO PICK UP -perishable foods in the mornings.  It does not take long, but needs to be done so we can distribute it to those in need coming into our Corps.  Our vehicle available with appropriate license.

VETERANS OR PARENTS OF VETERANS - we would like to have some special people help out now and then at our Veterans Shelter.  Take the guys to a ball game or just to the store.  They would truly appreciate a "mom" coming in to help decorate the house a little during the holidays, or a home cooked meal once a week or month.  Many of the guys do not have family / close by, so your support would be greatly appreciated.

RECEPTIONISTS
We need 3+ Volunteers to be on a call list for availability when our
receptionist is out ill or on vacation.  We may also need extra help during
the holiday season.

A NOTE REGARDING THE REQUIRED VOLUNTEER APPLICATIONS

All volunteer opportunities at The Salvation Army require an application to be filled out IN FULL and a background check to be done. There is also a training called Safe From Harm that all employees and volunteers must take every two years.

The application can be picked up at 100 Arbana Drive in Ann Arbor. The process takes about 2 weeks for approval.

If you need to volunteer for a court ordered community service time, you will need to complete the Community Service Application and bring or mail in a copy of your court order, describing the offense.

Our pantry serves anyone within the Washtenaw County area with food items that will help a family through several complete meals. This time of the year our pantry begins to decline since the Christmas effort has finished and there is no longer the attention given to the hunger issue.

Making our pantry available to families in need is allowing the family to redistribute food dollars to other areas of critical needs within the household.

Food drives are important to our neighbors who want to give to the pantry but have no one to help facilitate the process for them.

There is nothing more fundamental in The Salvation Army's work than giving food. In America, we help out our neighbors. This food drive will help hundreds of families during this very difficult economy.

Thank God for those who give of themselves to help our neighbors.

John Williams, Major

Washtenaw County Coordinator
