The Salvation Army Food Pantry shelves are bare and people are lined up for assistance

empty shelves

The shelves of The Salvation Army's food pantry are bare and staff is scrounging for items to fill grocery bags with each week.  The poor economy has resulted in surges of visits to the local food pantry.  The Salvation Army's food pantry has seen exponential increases over the past two years.  This year, The Salvation Army's food pantry is seeing a 15% increase in visits over the already busy previous year which saw similar boosts.

The reason for the considerable increase is explained with each visitor's story.  Some have experienced lay offs and are seeking help for the first time, others have had hours at work drastically cut and are needing to visit food pantries more frequently; but each of the families that visit The Salvation Army's food pantry have the same needs:  nutritious food to feed their family and surviving until the next pay check or job.  The Salvation Army will continue to be there to help meet those needs.

Help provide for families in our community through supporting The Salvation Army food pantry through a food donation or hosting a food drive.  Current most needed items include:  canned vegetables & fruit, soups/stew, helper meals, mac ‘n cheese, canned meals and cereal.  Donations can be dropped off Monday-Friday from 8am-4pm.  Contact The Salvation Army at (262) 547-7367 for more information.
