100 PEOPLE ATTEND SPECIAL RECOGNITION LUNCHEON

LegacyOfLove

Nearly one hundred people attended this week's annual LEGACY OF LOVE luncheon to honor long-term continuous donors to The Salvation Army of Waukesha. Donors were recognized for 15, 20, 25, 30 and 35 years of continuous giving. Special mention of our thirty-five year donor, Albert Pipke of Waukesha.

Attendees were briefed on successes of the past year, introduced to key staff members, and the group saw a new video that explains and promotes the Waukesha Salvation Army's work. Thank you, ALL, for your ongoing, loyal support of our mission -- "Doing The Most Good" ... in Waukesha since 1894!

SALVATION ARMY'S BIG NATIONAL DAY -- FRIDAY

FREE DONUTS THIS FRIDAY, June 3rd, AT WOODMAN'S WAUKESHA, near Highways 59 & 164, starting at 9:30ish until 1,000 are gone! Sponsored by Entennman's nationwide (thank you!), this is an annual fundraiser in celebration of The Salvation Army's  . . . NATIONAL DONUT DAY.

Donut

This yearly observance hearkens back to WWI in the battlefield trenches of France when extremely brave Salvation Army women crawled under active shell fire to deliver hot coffee and donuts they'd made from scratch in order to boost the morale of war weary, hungry soldiers fighting the German Army at the front lines.

Please come honor those dedicated women, the heroic soldiers of today and the past, and, if you wish, show your financial support for the Salvation Army's charitable work in Waukesha County (since 1894) by dropping a little something in the Red Kettle that we'll have on hand (free will offering). THANK YOU!

A POST FOR THIS APRIL FUN (Fools) DAY: Please meet the general overseer and mascot of our 2nd floor dining room's industrial kitchen, "Petey Potato Head." Every week, Waukesha Salvation Army feeds between 200-300 people during three FREE Community Meals, for anyone in need-- Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, from 5:00-5:45pm. FIRST DAY - SPRING BREAK "FEED THE KIDS"

FeedTheKids

Throughout the Summer, and during Spring Break each year, the Waukesha Salvation Army's "Feed The Kids" program kicks in. It provides hundreds of sack lunches each week to hungry students out of school. Without access to school breakfast and lunch programs, many children would otherwise, simply go hungry. Volunteers are needed each day to make simple sandwiches and pack-up the food destined for the public park location(s) where it is distributed 11:30am to 12:30pm. Donations are also gratefully accepted, mailed to Waukesha Salvation Army, 445 Madison Street, 53188. Thank you for your continued support!

The most common reaction we get when we talk about the Waukesha Salvation Army is . . . amazement! Did you know we've been in Waukesha since 1894? Did you know our mission is specifically to serve the needs of Waukesha County? Did you know we run the largest Men's Homeless Shelter in the county .. typically forty guys young-and-old per night, year-round? Did you know that we serve three, free, evening Community Meals every week typically to over 100 people each time? Did you know there is ALWAYS free bread at the Waukesha Salvation Army? Did you know we run a large Food Pantry operation? That we run summertime day and weeklong camps for kids and families? That we have worship services on Sunday? Let us tell you our story-- it's YOUR story, too! Call Phil Hanson at 262-547-7367, x231.

FUN AFTER-SCHOOL YOUTH MINISTRIES PROGRAM

BandPractice

Instructor, Dakota Reeves, works with two young boys who want to play in the band! One on the trumpet and the other on the euphonium (lap tuba), this pair of "River City Cit-TIZ-zieens" isn't peeking into the pool hall window after school, and might well have earned a spot in Mayor Shinn's Boy's Band (1962-"The Music Man"). Mr. Reeves doesn't use the famed "think system" but produces miraculous, melodious results just the same! Come on downtown to 3rd & Madison; be part of the Waukesha Salvation Army's success stories!

Limited to ladies only, age 14 and up. We apologize but we're unable to provide child care.

THE FILM: "Pride and Prejudice" from 2005, nominated for four Academy Awards, starring Keira Knightley. (From www.imdb.com)-- "This quintessentially English film is utterly charming - a very traditional interpretation of Jane Austen's 1813 novel that manages to entertain, amuse and even move. First time director Joe Wright has worked with television playwright Deborah Moggach's script and a wonderful collection of mainly British actors to delight us. The versatile camera-work, luscious countryside, grand settings, period costumes, and atmospheric music are evidence of a work on which much love has been lavished.
