YRC II Residential Center

Residential services are offered to males and females, aged 10 years of age and older at two locations. 20 beds for males are available at the Koch Center and 12 beds for female are located at the Hiawatha Camp.

The Koch Center is located at 350 N. Market in Wichita and Hiawatha Camp is at 1701 W. 51st Street, also in Wichita. The length of placement in these facilities is determined by the case plan developed in concert with the placement agency.


Admission Criteria

YRC II unit is designed to serve teen boys and girls who have the following characteristics:

  • Are adjudicated as a Juvenile Offender

  • Are in the custody of the Juvenile Justice Authority or SRS

  • Are experiencing family, community and/or school difficulties of an acute or chronic nature necessitating removal from the family home.

Goal

To provide a living environment that protects, nurtures and challenges youth to reach their potential, normalize their behavior and experience their community.

Services

  • Working with the Juvenile Justice Authority (JJA) to provide counseling services for the youth and her family that assists family functioning and development. When necessary, to develop appropriate visiting resources or foster families for youth

  • Provide youth with a supportive peer culture

  • Coordinate a program with the public school system and other approved agencies to assure maximum educational benefit

  • Provide recreation experiences that promote health, wellness and community involvement

  • Spiritual and religious development opportunities

  • Coordination of appropriate medical and dental treatment


The Salvation Army utilizes a Teaching Model as a method of care and treatment. The family-style environment provides the opportunity for Direct Care Workers to observe, teach and role model life skills on a daily basis. The treatment techniques are based on the knowledge of behavior principles. The behavior technology adapted to the individuals needs helps to develop the youth’s social skills that are needed to live a healthy and successful life. The program’s aim is to help strengthen the entire family unit. Each youth has an individualized treatment plan. If you should have any questions please contact:
