THE RAY AND JOAN KROC CORPS COMMUNITY CENTER OPPORTUNITY - Grand Rapids
Thousands of youth and families have participated in programs at the San Diego Kroc Center, the prototype for facilities that will be built with Joan Kroc's generous bequest of $1.9 billion to The Salvation Army. Grand Rapids now has the opportunity to be one of the few exclusive communities in the nation to benefit from the vision of Joan Kroc and the recreational, educational, spiritual and cultural arts services provided though a Kroc Community Center.
Joan Kroc had specific instructions for The Salvation Army in administering her gift: a Ray & Joan Kroc Corps Community Center should consist of facilities and programs of superb quality that provide children, youth, families, and individuals with educational, recreational, cultural arts and other activities that build character, confidence and competence. Each Center should be a beacon of hope and an agent of change in an underserved community.
OUR HOPE IS IN YOU
The Salvation Army has embarked on one of its most important projects ever. The initial $10 million site acquisition and community endowment goals have been reached.
Now, a newly proposed 10-acre land purchase will provide children and their families with more space to play and room to grow. The planned therapeutic lazy river addition and fitness center expansion will tackle childhood and adult obesity head on. And sustainable LEED certification will ensure the Community Center is as structurally sound, technologically advanced and environmentally-friendly as possible.
We need to raise $2.5 million from the local community to reach this new goal...
our hope is in you.
