MILWAUKEE COMMUNITY RELATIONS DIRECTOR DEPLOYED AS NATIONAL PUBLIC INFORMATION OFFICER FOR THE SALVATION ARMY IN JOPLIN, MISSOURI

Wauwatosa, WI (June 1, 2011) On Sunday, May 22 The Salvation
Army responded immediately providing canteens, meeting the needs of Joplin,
Missouri tornado survivors by providing food, beverages, emotional/spiritual
care, and other necessities. Faithe Colas, Community Relations Director
for The Salvation Army in Milwaukee County has been deployed to represent The Salvation
Army nationally in Joplin, Missouri. Colas will leave for tornado ravaged Joplin,
Missouri on Friday, June 3rd returning
to Milwaukee on
Tuesday, June 14th.
“It is a testament to the outstanding work of Faithe Colas
here in Milwaukee that she has been selected to
represent the work of The Salvation Army to the nation in such a difficult
situation as we find in Joplin. Her experience with natural disasters here in
Wisconsin has prepared her well for this
deployment,” said Major Robert Thomson, Salvation Army Divisional Commander for
Wisconsin and Upper Michigan.
The following are Salvation
Army’s efforts in Joplin,
as of 12:00 PM Thursday, May 26
· The Salvation Army has
served 16,692 hot meals and 4,198 snacks and 11,116 beverages.
· The Salvation Army has
provided 6 Mobile Feeding Units (Canteens), including units from
Springfield, Kirksville, and Sedalia, Missouri, Pittsburg and Lawrence, Kansas
and Tulsa, Oklahoma,
· A Satellite
Communications truck from The Salvation Army’s USA Southern territory is in place
and handling phone, computer and internet communications.
· The Salvation Army has
delivered emotional/spiritual care and has prayed with hundreds of individuals.
· The Salvation Army has
initiated emergency Social Services programs in multiple locations.
· Salvation Army
officers (pastors), employees and volunteers have served thousands of hours.
